Dennis G. Baugh

Dennis G. Baugh of Palmyra, Virginia, U.S., was elected to a three-year term as a trustee of Kiwanis International during the 2023 Kiwanis International Convention held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S. He will serve as a trustee for the United States and Pacific Canada regions of Kiwanis. 

A member of Kiwanis for 14 years, Baugh is currently a member of the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville, Virginia, and the Kiwanis Club of Big Sky RX e-club in Montana. At the club level, he has served as treasurer, secretary, vice president and president (2010-11) as well as membership chair. In the Capital District of Kiwanis, he has served as lieutenant governor and governor (2020-21), youth protection manager, regional trustee, district convention chair, district chair to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund and division director of the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation. 

At the international level, Baugh has chaired the Membership Committee on Young Club Counseling (2020-21) and the Membership Committee on Club Excellence (2021-22).  

As a donor to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund, his honors include a George F. Hixson Fellowship, a Walter Zeller Fellowship, a Dr. Wil Blechman Fellowship and a Centennial Award. 

After becoming a Kiwanis member, Baugh immediately saw how the organization impacts local communities, but when he attended the 2011 Kiwanis International Convention and learned about the partnership between Kiwanis and UNICEF to help eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus, he appreciated the ability to help children around the world as well. He has worked diligently to increase clubs in his district and across the Kiwanis family, participating in club opening events and chairing two Kiwanis membership task forces on club coaching. He and his team trained over 1,000 certified club coaches. 

As trustee, Baugh wants to maintain an open line of communication with members and his assigned district governors to ensure they can access available resources. He also will use his experience in organizational governance to work with his fellow trustees on making sound decisions that will best benefit and grow Kiwanis. 

Baugh holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in criminal justice. He began his career working in corrections and completed it working with at-risk youth, retiring in 2015. Outside of the Kiwanis organization, Baugh has served as a member of church, community and governance boards. Baugh continues to be active in his church and enjoys traveling (cruises are a recent pastime), reading, working around the house and staying current on community affairs. He and his wife, Darlene, have three adult children and five grandchildren.
