Smith%2c Ron 2015

Ron Smith, Fountain Hills, Arizona
Kiwanis Club of Downtown Scottsdale Young Professionals
Southwest District

From Minneapolis. I served two tours in Vietnam (Marine).  28-year career as special agent/senior executive with Treasury Department. Assigned 5 years to American Embassy, Vienna, Austria.  After retirement, earned master’s degree in criminal justice, am now a professor. Happily married to Joanne, enjoying our son, daughter and three lovely grandchildren.

Why did you decide to run for office?
Because “Kids Need Us”.  Serving the last four years as KI Foundation (Children’s Fund) Trustee, I have truly experienced and embraced our mission, “Serving the Children of the World.”  My belief is that our growth initiative, and both Boards, must be laser-focused on our mission because #KidsNeedKiwanis.

What qualifies you to become an officer of Kiwanis International?
Most importantly, serving as a hands-on district Circle K International administrator and Key Club advisor, as district governor, as regional and district ELIMINATE Project coordinator gave me direct involvement with districts around the world, which only broadened my Kiwanis experience. Leading by example, I have opened seven clubs and sponsored 175+ Kiwanians.

How will you leave your mark on Kiwanis?
As KI Foundation Trustee and chairman of the Development Committee, we proudly established the “Children’s Fund” and enhanced the club grant program.  I have the experience to promote positive partnerships with staff, to support club growth and fulfilling the mission. I will keep us focused on the Children of the World.
