KIWANIS CHILDREN’S FUND TRUSTEE
Ronald E. “Ron” Smith of Fountain Hills, Arizona, previously served a three-year term (2013-2016) and is now serving a one-year term on the Kiwanis Children’s Fund Board of Trustees, effective October 1, 2016.
Ron serves as the Southwest District Advocate during the fulfillment phase of The Eliminate Project. His efforts during the past five years as the coordinator with clubs and volunteers in the Southwest District has raised US$1.5 million as part of Kiwanis International’s US$110 million worldwide goal.
Currently, in the Southwest District he is a club builder for The Formula; serves as the Assistant CKI Administrator; is an advisor for two Key Clubs; and advisor of a K-Kids program at a local Boys and Girls Club.
Ron served as Governor of the Southwest District from 2009-2010 and distinguished Lt. Governor during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 administrative years. He is a charter president of the Kiwanis Club of Payson Dream Catchers. Currently, he is the President of the Downtown Scottsdale Young Professionals Kiwanis Club.
His Kiwanis honors include the George F. Hixson Fellowship and Hixson Ambassador; a member of the Kiwanis Children’s Fund Heritage Society; charter Walter Zeller Fellowship; Ruby K pin recipient for sponsoring 125 new Kiwanis members; and, Centennial Award recipient. Ron and his wife, Joanne, are Major Donors for The Eliminate Project.
Ron was inducted into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame in October 2013. As a community volunteer for many years, he served as chairman of several projects, including the Community Blood Drive and a campaign to “adopt” a family room at the Ronald McDonald House near Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He is a member of the Marine Corps Association, VFW, American Legion and Vietnam Veterans.
After 30 years with the U.S. Customs Office of Investigations, Ron retired in 1997. He currently is a part-time adjunct professor at the Paradise Valley Community College in Arizona, and for several years has been an instructor with Junior Achievement.
Ron’s wife, Joanne, is a registered nurse. She is a member/director of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Scottsdale Young Professionals, and member/director/Eliminate Project coordinator for the Kiwanis Club of Payson Dream Catchers. The Smith’s have two children and two grandchildren.
